Landmark Supreme Court decision which held that provision guaranteeing a criminal defendant the assistance of counsel under the Sixth Amendment, U.S.Const., is binding on the states in state proceedings through the due process provision of the Fourteenth Amendment. 372 U.S. 335, 83 S.Ct. 792, 9 L.Ed.2d 799.
